The essentials course covers the core post graduate skin cancer medicine education for doctors working in general practice. The course focuses on key skills, diagnostic essentials and the safe practice. Procedures covered in this workshop include: curettage, cryotherapy, cautery, punch biopsy, shave biopsy, elliptical excision and incisional biopsy. Surgical procedures are reinforced with the opportunity to practice techniques on pigs trotters. The five day flap / graft workshop is recommended for those wishing to progress beyond this 2 day program.

Session 2: 10:30 AM to 12 Noon
- Shave, punch and incisional biopsy techniques (with pigs trotters) SKILLS SESSION
- Equipment for skin surgery
- Setting up a procedure room
Lunch: Noon to 2 PM
Session 3: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
- Melanoma management in general practice
Session 4: 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
- Direct closure of skin defects (with pigs trotters) SKILLS SESSION
- Working with your pathologist
- Cysts and lipomata
Day 1 completes with a cheese, nibbles and drinks pre dinner get together straight after education session.

- Dermoscopy of malignant melanoma
Session 6: 10:30 AM to 12 Noon
- Suture techniques (with pigs trotters) SKILLS SESSION
- Role of imiquimod, 5-FU, diclofenac and PDT

Session 7: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
- Non melanoma skin cancers - surgical essentials
- An introduction to flaps (with pigs trotters) SKILLS SESSION
